One of the most popular Spring-time events in Walt Disney World, the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, blooms today for the 2017 season.
From now through May 29th, visitors to Epcot will be able to experience a celebration of Spring, complete with colorful flowers, unique topiaries, outdoor kitchens, exhibits, seminars, how-to demonstrations, and the Garden Rocks Outdoor Concert Series.
Let’s start with the flowers—there are a lot of them. Millions of them, in fact. Although Epcot is beautifully landscaped year-round, the gardens explode in colorful blooms beyond their normal levels during this festival. One of our favorite displays of blooms is near the Imagination Pavilion where the ground is literally covered in a vibrant quilt of blooms. It is best viewed from the center walkway between Future World and World Showcase.
Another favorite fixture of the International Flower and Garden Festival is the collection of topiaries, many featuring Disney and Pixar characters. There are nearly 100 topiaries scattered all around Epcot, so be sure to keep an eye open for them. This year there are several new topiaries, including one featuring Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Long-time Epcot fans will be pleased to find a new topiary featuring Figment, the lovable dragon from Journey Into Imagination with Figment. And there are new topiaries featuring characters from the upcoming Cars 3 movie.
As you walk around Epcot looking for topiaries and admiring the flowers, you’re likely to get hungry. Fortunately, there will be outdoor kitchens and food kiosks setup around the park, offering culinary options for all tastes. Two new outdoor kitches for 2017 are Northern Bloom and The Berry Basket. Northern Bloom in the Canada Pavilion offers dishes including seared scallops, beef tenderloin tips, and a unique maple popcorn shake (with or without alcohol). The Berry Basket offers berry-flavored dishes, including lamb chop with quinoa salad and blackberry gastrique.
At night, the America Gardens Theatre is host to the Garden Rocks Outdoor Concert Series, featuring several popular musical acts. The 2017 lineup includes Jon Secada, Dennis DeYoung, The Pointer Sisters, Simple Plan, Plain White T’s, Night Ranger, Little River Band, Blood, Sweat, and Tears featuring Bo Bice, Gin Blossoms, The Orchestra starring former members of ELO, Exposé, Berlin featuring Terri Nunn, STARSHIP starring Mickey Thomas, The Guess Who, Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone, and The Spinners.
If you visit Epcot during the International Flower and Garden Festival, be sure to pick up the festival passport when you grab a park map. It contains a checklist of all of the topiaries, gardens, outdoor kitchens, Garden Rocks artists, and more.
If you’re not yet planning a trip to Epcot during the festival, then it’s not too late.
